What does the Afghan Womens Scholars network do to support women scholars in Afghanistan?
Sweeta Akbari is the founder and CEO of Afghan Women Scholars (afghanwomenscholars.com), an organization with the goal of supporting women scholars in Afghanistan. AWS is a platform for supporting Afghan women to pursue their education or research in a safe place. In this video Dr. Akbari describes what the group has done to support women in higher education under the Taliban regime.
Dr. Akbari holds a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from University Malaysia Pahang. She has served as academic research advisor to the Ministry of Higher Education of Afghanistan. Currently, she is working as a postdoctoral researcher at Tampere University, Finland. Sweeta is the author of more than 25 scientific articles and book chapters and winner of many gold and silver medals from her research projects. Sweeta’s passion is to support the education of Afghan women and girls. In 2017, she founded the International Journal of Innovative Research and Scientific Studies (IJIRSS). IJIRSS is a multidisciplinary international journal for scholars to support them in their research works and publications. So far, IJIRSS has published many articles from Afghan scholars and is indexed in SCOPUS database.
