Prashanth Parameswaran on U.S. Policy towards the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)

Prashanth Parameswaran discusses what the United States needs to do in order to engage Southeast Asia collectively. He further discusses the role for U.S. security architecture in the region under the new administration.

Prashanth Parameswaran is senior editor at The Diplomat based in Washington, D.C., where he writes mostly on Southeast Asia, Asian security affairs and U.S. foreign policy in the Asia-Pacific. He is also a Ph.D. candidate at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. An ASEAN citizen who grew up in Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines before moving to the United States, Prashanth previously worked on Asian affairs at several think tanks including the Center for Strategic and International Studies. He has also conducted extensive field research in the region and consulted for companies and governments. His writings have appeared in a wide range of publications in the United States and in Asia, including Foreign Policy, The National Interest, The Washington Quarterly, The Straits Times, and The Nation.
